The Tascam CDGT2 Guitar Trainer is a must have item for the serious musician. I purchased this unit to replace my old Tascam CDGT1 that finally quit working after 5 years of heavy use. The CDGT2 works even better than its predecessor with separate buttons on the front panel for changing key and tempo. It does a great job at slowing down music, changing the key, looping a passage, or making fine adjustments to the pitch to bring the CD in tune with your instrument. The onboard digital effects sound fairly good and are adequate for rehearsal. My only criticism is that the display on the front panel is a bit hard to read, especially in low light. Also, I'd suggest getting the AC power supply as it eats batteries fairly fast. The CDGT2 uses a different power supply than the CDGT1 so you can't use your old adapter. I am a full time working musician, and for me, the CDGT2 is an ESSENTIAL tool for learning new music.

I am learning Flamenco guitar and this little gadget rocks my world! It allows me to take the CD's from my music books and re-queue parts and slow down solos so that I can hear them or play along.
There are many functions that I have not even touched yet out of the box but I knew that I could get it up and running for what I needed right off the bat--slowing parts down and really listening for those little innuendos that are so a part of Flamenco playing.
I imagine this trainer would work for any instrument. It is amazing how it can keep key and slow the tempo. Cool stuff. I've relied on Tascam as a good name over the years for recording equipment that is reliable and lasts.
This little gadget is affordable and useful. I am loving it and look forward to using more features as needed.
Battery life is not as long as a regular CD player (and the manual tells you that). It is slightly disappointing that Tascam does not provide the A/C adapter with the unit (an extra $25 or so). This may be a good option if you see a lot of use with the unit. I'll be buying the adapter myself because 4 "AA" batteries will probably be eaten like popcorn by this trainer.
I still love it.

Very helpful tool.
Still learning how to use all the features.
A little muddy sounding when slowing the speed down to -50.
Overall, I love it. Glad I purchased it.
Cuts learning a song down in half.
Recommend purchasing this tool, whether you're a beginner or professional guitar player.
Awesome.

This is a great product with nice features, unfortunately, it's already been updated to the MP3 version, which I also own, and the new model kicks [...]!!! Worth the extra $50 simply for it's ease of use and replacement of songs, the CD model means you have to put the tracks you want to play/practice, onto a CD first. Being a drummer, it allows me to slow down or speed up the tempo of a song to practice what's being played, and there's also a multi-functional metronome on it, with a clear 'click' sound, not a tone or pulse, so you know exactly where the beat is. A good product, but the MP3 version is better.

I wish they made things like this when I was a kid, I wouldn't have worn so many records out playing the same passages over and over and over. Eight bars..move the needle back...... It got slightly better with cassettes, but not much. This Tascam Guitar trainer is fantastic, I can slow down fast passages and not only be sure I'm getting the notes right, but I can pick up the little nuances that are so often tips to fingerings, hammer ons, pull offs, etc... And, it stays in the same key! Not only that, if you want to learn it in a different key, you can just set the Guitar trainer to play the song in whatever key you want. You don't have to learn it in one key and then transpose in your head.
