The Tascam MPGT1 is designed with musicians in mind. It combines a guitar trainer based on the award winning Tascam CD-GT1mkII. With enough memory to store up to 240 tunes, this is even more portable than the original. Play back MP3s using Variable Speed Audition, which slows down the speed without changing the pitch, and sections can be seamlessly looped while practicing tricky passages. The guitar input lets you play with the built in Multi-effects. Also includes a guitar canceller to play along with your favorite bands. A tuner, metronome, and rechargeable battery are also built-in. All these features in a package small enough to fit in your pocket. A 9-hour lithium-ion battery or an optional power supply will power the unit.

I bought this for my husband because he travels a lot and takes his guitar with when he does. This way he can practice at the level he does when he is at home without a bulky piece of equipment. This is about the size of an ipod. He loves it and says it works great!
The retailer I bought it from on Amazon was great as well. Shipped fast, even during the busy holiday season.

I have used the Tascam CD trainers for many years and I bought one of these MP3 trainers when they came out. I liked using the MP3 files instead of messing with CDs. However, the controls on the MPGT1 were kind or crappy and never work as well as the play, stop, rewind, loop, controls on TASCAM's CD players. The menu system is awkward and the big bumpy wheel control is just a crappy control.

I agree with other reviewers. Yes, it is very easy to use. No one seems to talk about the FX features. You can add special FX to your guitar sounds - metal, reverb, chorus, crunch, etc. I find that aspect of this rather cumbersome because you need to drill down in to several menus in order to change a setting.

Want to learn how to play your favorite guitar parts from your favorite songs? Need to learn a part for a gig? Need a gig? This thing practically puts your fingers where they need to be. I love this device. I've owned and used a number of Teac guitar and Bass trainers, and this one ROCKS. Read the features, and I guarantee you'll love it. It's a blast to play along with , and the array of effects is awesome. Trust me - BUY ONE.

And its easy. I transfer some jam tracks and mp3s on it from my computer, plug in my headphones and computer, park myself in the den with appropriate eats and drink, and just have fun. You can't help but improve your skills using this thing. The first time through it takes an hour or so to learn the menus and a few of the tricks, but after that, its easy. You can be as serious and methodical about learning as you want or just have fun. This is one of the better purchases I've made in some time.
